Future Gamecocks Honored at Drive-Thru Event

05/16/2020

More than 175 high school seniors planning to attend Jacksonville State in the fall were awarded scholarship certificates and "Future Gamecock" lawn signs on Saturday, May 16, during a drive-thru celebration on campus.

Acting President Don Killingsworth, Provost Christie Shelton and Cocky the mascot greeted the future Gamecocks as they drove through the parking lot of Pete Mathews Coliseum and picked up their signs and certificates. The effort was a creative alternative to in-person high school awards ceremonies usually attended by university representatives each spring to honor incoming students.

The JSU Office of Admissions has similar events planned in the following cities over the next week to honor future students as they graduate from high school:

Monday, May 18

  • Huntsville, Ala.
  • Guntersville, Ala.
  • Oxford, Ala.

Tuesday, May 19

  • Atlanta, Ga.
  • Rome, Ga.

Wednesday, May 20

  • Montgomery, Ala.
  • Birmingham, Ala.

Thursday, May 21

  • Gadsden, Ala.
