JSU Awards 503 Degrees During Fall 2014 Commencement

Five hundred three candidates for graduation crossed the stage to receive their degrees during Jacksonville State University’s Fall 2014 Commencement exercises on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude and leading the class were top graduates: Malorie Danielle Rosser of Centre, Ala, who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts.; Heather Corinne Smith of Moody, Ala., who earned her Bachelor of Science; and McKenzie Rene Spurlin of Boaz, Ala., who earned her Bachelor of Science in Education.

The faculty led the processional and University President Dr. William A. Meehan presented the degrees.

At the 4:30 p.m. ceremony, JSU awarded emeritus status to: Dr. Jerald Abercrombie, professor emeritus of mathematics; Dr. Adrian Aveni, professor emeritus of sociology; and Dr. Donnie Ford, department head emeritus of mathematical, computing and information sciences. Emerita status was granted to Ms. Gloria Horton, instructor emerita of English. At the 7 p.m. ceremony, the university granted emeritus status to Dr. Ronnie Harris, professor emeritus of physical education.

Also during commencement ceremonies, attendees were treated to an original song, "We Made It," written and performed by Katie Akins of Southside, Ala., who received her Bachelor of Science in Education at the 7 p.m. ceremony. Katie dedicated her inspirational song to her fellow classmates. Enjoy!
