Miss JSU 2014 Jayme Wagner Sets Sight on Miss Alabama Crown

Miss JSU 2014 Jayme Rheann Wagner is representing Jacksonville State University this week at the Miss Alabama Pageant, which will culminate on Saturday, June 7 at Samford University's Wright Center.

Miss Wagner, 20, is a junior majoring in family and consumer sciences with a concentration in merchandising. She is a native of Oxford, and is the daughter of Kim Wagner and Pat Cleveland. 

She was crowned Miss JSU on January 17 at Leone Cole Auditorium. Her platform is fighting childhood obesity. For her talent, she performs pointe.

In preliminary competition this week, Miss Wagner will participate in interview on Wednesday morning, swimsuit and onstage question on Wednesday evening, evening wear on Thursday and talent on Friday. Forty-seven women are competing for the crown this week. The current Miss Alabama, Chandler Champion of Leeds, will crown the winner on Saturday night. 

Since the Miss Alabama pageant began in 1921, seven Jacksonville State University women have worn the Miss Alabama crown, including Heather Whitestone McCallum, who went on become Miss America 1995. Miss America 1979 runner-up Teresa Cheatham Stricklin was Miss Alabama 1978. Other Miss Alabamas from JSU are Ceil Jenkins Snow (1971), Jane Rice Holloway (1973), Julie Houston Elmer (1977), Tammy Little Haynes (1984) and Jamie Langley (2007).
