Orientation for New Students Entering JSU in May

The Office of Student Life will be hosting new student orientation for first-year students entering JSU in May 2014. Students will check in at the Theron Montgomery Building today, May 1, at 10 a.m. Students and guests will be introduced to student services, participate in a campus tour, have lunch with us on campus and complete academic advisement and registration. Transfer students are not required to attend orientation. Please direct any transfer students to the department of their intended major.

 
JSU Drama Presents 'Fool for Love' May 15-18

Jacksonville State University's Drama Department will present Sam Shepard's "Fool for Love" on May 15-18 at the Ernest Stone Performing Arts Center on campus. Directed by Michael Boynton, this production stars JSU students Joshua Cody Hunt, Carrie Shaw, Cody Hayes and Maurice Winsell.
 
Teacher Environmental Education Workshop- Beyond My Pond

JSU Field Schools, Environmental Education Association of Alabama (EEAA) and the Choccolocco Creek Watershed Alliance will present a teacher workshop, "Beyond My Pond: What's So Important About My Watershed?" on May 31, 2014 at the Cleburne County Mountain Center in Heflin, Ala.

With the support of State Senator Cam Ward, Bama Hager, Anna McConnell, Susan Hansen, Jane Davis, and the Alabama Department of Mental Health, Dr. McKerchar drafted SB13.
 
728 Degrees Conferred; Spring 2014 Class is Largest in JSU History

Seven hundred twenty-eight candidates received degrees from Jacksonville State University this spring, making up the largest graduating class in the university’s history. Nearly 600 of those students crossed the stage to receive their degrees during Spring Commencement exercises on Friday, May 6 at JSU Stadium.
 
University Service Committee Hosts Service Learning Reception

The University Service Committee’s Service Learning Reception will be held May 20, 2014 on the 11 Floor of the Houston Cole Library; taking place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Jacksonville State University’s new 2014-2015 Ambassadors were recently selected. JSU Ambassadors are chosen from among the university’s highest-performing students to serve as official representatives of JSU.

Congratulations to Stephanie Henry, JSU's Employee of the Month for May 2014. Ms. Henry is a Secretary in the Academic Center for Excellence. She has been an employee with Jacksonville State University since August 2012.

Jacksonville State University recognized Outstanding Faculty Awards winners, faculty research award, tenure and promotion recipients as well as retirees and scholars at the annual Faculty Awards Program on May 6 on the fifth floor of Stadium Towers.
