2014 Black History Month Events Announced

Jacksonville State University's Student Government Association and Office of Multicultural Programming announce the following campus events planned in conjunction with Black History Month 2014.
 
M5 - The Millennium Quintet to Perform "A Twist of Classic" Tonight in Oxford

The Millennium Quintet is an electronically assisted ensemble of five world-class concert artists who have performed at Carnegie Hall, Spoleto, national and international art festivals, with symphony orchestras and at universities, schools, and churches around the world.
 
IRC to Host the Professional Development Session "Proposal Development 101" on February 4

The JSU Institute for Research and Collaboration (IRC)will be hosting a professional development session on proposal development on February 4, 2014, 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the Gold Room of Bibb Graves Hall.
 
International Student Organization, Local Restaurant Team Up for Scholarship Fundraiser

The International Student Organization of JSU will partner with Strut's of Jacksonville to host a scholarship event fundraiser on February 13 from 5-9 p.m.
 
Apply to Study Abroad-- Phi Kappa Phi Grants are Available

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. The Society offers fifty awards at $1,000 each.
 
"Dolls, Dreams and Divinations" Opens Thursday, February 6 at Hammond Hall

"Dolls, Dreams, & Divinations," an exhibition of works by Pinky Bass, Carolyn DeMeritt, and Doug Baulos, opens Thursday. February 6 at Hammond Hall Gallery. Doug, Pinky, and Carolyn have all spent time in Mexico and their work has been inspired by the mysticism and lore of Mexican mythology.
 
February 7 Library Lunchtime Lecture to Feature Officer, Pilot Stan Cash

In honor of Black History Month, the Library Lunchtime Lecture scheduled for February 7 at Houston Cole Library will feature retired Army officer Stan Cash. The event begins at noon in Room 10B of Houston Cole Library and is free. Please bring your lunch and join us for this engaging speaker!

JSU Recognized Again as a Tree Campus USA

Jacksonville State University was honored with 2013 Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. The university is one of only three schools in the state to receive the designation.

University to Close at 4:30 p.m. Monday; Also Closed Tuesday, Feb. 11

Due to forecast hazardous weather, Jacksonville State University will close today at 4:30 p.m. to allow students the opportunity to return to their homes before the storm arrives. All classes and campus events scheduled for tonight are cancelled. The University will also be closed Tuesday, February 11 due to the potential for up to a quarter inch of ice accumulation and up to one inch of snow accumulation.

JSU Announces President's, Deans' Lists for Fall 2013

Jacksonville State University announces the following students were added to the President's and Deans' Lists for Fall 2013. To be named to the President's List, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average, or all A's. Students earning all A's and B's are named to the Deans' List.
