Phi Mu to Host 5K Run for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals on October 19

10/17/2013

The Kappa Sigma chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity will host their second annual 5K Run benefitting their national philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, on Saturday, October 19 at 8:30 a.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Runners will be provided with an event t-shirt, snacks, and water. There will be door prizes given and prizes given to the winners of the run. Those who are interested in participating should arrive at Pete Mathews Coliseum at 8:30 a.m. to register. Donations are accepted. All proceeds will be donated to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Sisters will be there to welcome the runners and cheer them on throughout the race!
The sisters of Phi Mu host events throughout the year to raise money for CMNH. They are the second leading contributor to CMNH, behind Wal-Mart. During the spring, the Kappa Sigma chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity hosted their first golf tournament at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Gadsden. More than 100 players participated and raised more than $10,000! The current philanthropy chairman, Bailee Mills, is responsible for planning and hosting the events to raise money for CMNH. Besides their two large annual events, they also sell CMNH "balloons" on campus on specific dates set by the chapter. They also donated books to the local CMNH hospital in Birmingham. The five sisters who donated the most books will be able to visit the hospital and read to some of the patients. Phi Mu also strives to serve the community by participating in various philanthropic events such as visiting Ladiga Manor periodically to read to the patients, sponsoring and donating to other philanthropies, volunteering to help with events, and much more!
We hope to see you at Phi Mu's 5K Run this Saturday! Come see the Phi Mu sisters and even the local celebrity, The Batman of JSU!
