Free Women's Self-Defense Class Offered on Campus October 30

10/15/2013

University Housing and Residence Life and local martial arts expert Ted Turgeon are hosting a free Women's Self Defense Class on Wednesday, October 30, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Tom Roberson Gymnasium at Stephenson Hall.

Our Women's Self Defense classes incorporate a variety of martial arts, and are tailored to meet the specific needs of women in the event of an attack, or threat to safety. Techniques are taught with the mindset that an attacker is more often larger, as well as stronger. Gun and knife defenses are also shown.

Mr. Turgeon has been teaching Women's Self Defense classes since 2007, and has had his lessons used successfully in real life.

Here are some comments from a few course attendants:

"I liked the information and examples that were given...AWESOME CLASS! Great instruction made it easy to understand the moves." - Amber

"It was easy to learn. I really enjoyed it!" - Becky

"This was VERY helpful to me! It was fun! Thank you!" - Mandy

"More empowering than two years of karate!" - Beverly

"I liked the knife techniques...and the cheesy jokes." - Cindy

Don't wait for something to happen. Prepare yourself as well as you can now.
