Traffic, Pedestrian Patterns Could Be Altered Due to Summer Construction Projects

Below are Google Earth images that indicate areas on the JSU campus (highlighted red polygons) that have scheduled construction commencing as soon as Monday, June 24.  All projects on this list are scheduled to be completed by the fall semester except for project number 6, the Hammond Hall restroom addition, which could take longer. Please be aware that traffic and pedestrian patterns will be altered during construction.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation while these projects are underway.

Sparkman Hall

Sparkman Hall rear at the intersection of Millican and Nelson Drives.  The three way intersection will no longer exist.  A large island will be created in the existing Millican Drive connecting three sidewalks.

Theron Montgomery Building

TMB loading dock area:  a grease trap is being added just outside the loading dock entrance of the food court. TMB loading dock and stairs leading to Trustee Circle:  the existing concrete stairs will be removed and a new 8' wide concrete stairs with handrails will be installed.

Field House

Field House front elevation:  a new sidewalk will be installed along the front of the Field House, which will begin at Cole Drive near the cooling tower and end at the stop sign near Trustee Circle just past the ticket booth.

Dixon Hall

Dixon Hall main entrance:  Scope of work has not yet been determined but will range from the removal of the existing parking spaces to possibly adding a bus lane similar but shorter to the one already located on Forney Avenue near the new parking lots.

Hammond Hall

Hammond Hall restroom addition:  a portion of the covered walkway connecting Anders Roundhouse to Hammond Hall will be converted to a men's and women's restroom.  The canopy connected to the Computer Center will be removed as part of this project.

The Physical Plant Department thanks you in advance for your cooperation as we implement these campus improvements that will increase pedestrian safety and satisfy two campus deficiencies.  Thank you.
