JSU Field Schools Announce Summer Nature Camps

Registration is now open for JSU Field Schools' award -winning Nature Camps. Camps are filling quickly, so please act quickly to guarantee your spot!
JSU Little River Canyon Nature & Arts Camp
Hands-on environmental education, outdoor fun, arts and exploration of the natural world
abound in this camp. After spending a day with Renee Morrison and Teje Sult, these camps
leave children begging for more JSU Field School fun! Children learn all about Little River
Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park…the river, the plants and the animals!
These camps fill quickly so register early. Fee includes lunch and supplies.
Date: June 5 – 7, 2013 (Weds - Fri)
Age/Grade: Ages 7-10 years
Where: Little River Canyon Center in Fort Payne; daily short trips in local area
Time: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm daily
Fee: $150 per participant; pre-registration required
JSU’s Mountain Center Nature & Arts Camp
Hands-on environmental education, outdoor fun, and arts (storytelling, “fairy tale” observation hikes,
ghost-huntin’, hands-on art & more) abound in this camp. After spending a day with Renee Morrison
and Teje Sult, these camps leave children begging for more JSU Field School fun! These camps fill
quickly so register early. Fee includes lunch and supplies.
Date: June 18-20, 2013 (Tues - Thurs)
Age/Grade: Ages 7 – 9 years
Where: JSU and McClellan Shuttle Van to Mountain Center; daily short trips in local area
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm daily
Fee: $150 per participant; pre-registration required
Chickadee Camp: Outdoor Adventures for Girls
Hands-on outdoor recreation, environmental education, nature, and art for girls ONLY! Heflin PARD director, Tammy
Perry, JSU Field Schools Assistant Director, Renee Morrison, and USFS Shoal Creek
Ranger, Karen McKenzie, will partner to give young women the opportunity to learn outdoor
skills in this fun camp. Activities include disc golf, kayaking, archery, survival skills,
animal/plant observation and more!
Date: July 23-25, 2013 (Tues- Thurs)
Age/Grade: Females age 8-12 years (pre-teen females)
Where: JSU and McClellan Shuttle Van to Mountain Center; daily short trips in
local area
Time: 8:30 am—4:00 pm daily
Fee: $150 per participant; pre-registration required
Greenager Camp: Nature Camp for Pre-Teens & Early Teens
Hands-on outdoor recreation, environmental education, nature, and art for kids ages 12- 15 years. JSU Field Schools will
partner with Cheaha State Park and US Forest Service to give pre-teens the opportunity to learn about education and careers
that pertain to nature and arts. Activities include disc golf, kayaking, archery, survival skills, animal and
plant observation and more!
Date: July 29-31, 2013 (Mon- Weds)
Age/Grade: Ages 12 – 15 years
Where: JSU and McClellan Shuttle Van to Mountain Center; daily short trips in local area
Time: 8:30 am—4:00 pm daily
Fee: $200 per participant; pre-registration required
