Funeral Services Announced for Maj. John Turner, Former JSU Communications Department Chair

Jacksonville - Funeral services with military honors for MAJ John Calvin Turner, USA Ret., 87, will be today, April 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Revs. John Simmons and Ted Anderson officiating. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, West Virginia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service.

MAJ Turner died at his home Thursday, April 4, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Emogene O. Turner, of Jacksonville; two sons, John Michael Turner and his wife, Jean, of Birmingham and Arthur W. Turner and his wife, Teresa, of Irving, Texas; two sisters, Jewel Dean Dunnigan, of Placerville, Calif. and Louise Johnson, of Redmond, Calif.; a brother, James Turner, of Calamesa, Calif. and three grandchildren. MAJ Turner was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville. He served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years, including service during World War II and Korea. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Master Parachutist Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. He was head of the Communications Department at JSU for 20 years until his retirement.
