At 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, the Jacksonville State University A Cappella Choir will perform at the Alabama Music Educators In Service Conference at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center in Montgomery. A Cappella Choir is under the direction of JSU Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Patricia Corbin and is accompanied by Meg Griffin.

The choir will perform a wider variety of repertoire by composers from the Renaissance through the 21st Century. A featured work on the program will be a work for choir and percussion ensemble entitled “Stars” by Dan Forrest from the Three Nocturnes.  Percussion students Jesse Stevens, Evan Romack, Oliver Dupree and Reuben Rodriguez were selected and coached by JSU Percussion faculty member, Dr. Tony McCutchen, to collaborate with the  A Cappella Choir for this important event.

This conference is sponsored by the Alabama Music Educators Association, a federated state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education, which promotes the advancement of music education through professional development, curricular support and advocacy.  Performing groups are competitively selected to participate in this conference and JSU Chamber Winds has also been invited to perform.

In addition to concert performances, the conference will hold workshops designed specifically for music educators and music education students. Workshop topics include teaching, rehearsal techniques, sight reading and music technology.
