Campus Events Slated in October for 'Wipe Out Domestic Violence' Month

Intimate partner violence occurs in 1 out of every 5 dating relationships in college. October is “Wipe Out Domestic Violence” Month at JSU. Several events will take place that will raise awareness of violence in dating relationships.

During the entire month, there will be a paper product drive benefiting 2nd Chance, Inc. Items to be donated for the drive include: baby wipes, cleaning wipes, facial tissue, toilet paper, paper towels, and Kleenex. Look for the purple boxes at the following drop-off locations; Counseling Services (140 Daugette Hall), TMB, and Houston Cole Library.

On Monday, October 8th, a “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” Awareness Walk will be sponsored by Gamma Sigma Sigma and will take place from 4 – 6 p.m., starting on the TMB lawn. There will be speakers and information on the lawn that day and there is no fee to participate in the walk. The actual walk begins at 4:52 p.m.

These events are co-sponsored by JSU Counseling Services, Gamma Sigma Sigma, JSU Peer Educators, and SOAR. For more information, contact Counseling Services at 782-5475.
