Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management with a minor in Public Safety Telecommunications

Jacksonville State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management with a minor in Public Safety Telecommunications. The mission of the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Emergency Management program is to prepare students for emergency management careers in the public, private, and voluntary sectors. The interdisciplinary curriculum blends theoretical perspectives with professional practice, and emphasizes application of knowledge to practice settings.

Emergency management practice occurs in a variety of settings, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and business/industry. Government agencies include the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and their state and local counterparts. Non-profit organizations include American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management with a minor in Public Safety Telecommunications includes courses in Public Safety Communications, Interpersonal Communications, Legal Issues in Public Safety Communications, Introduction to Crisis Intervention, Introduction to Weapons of Mass Destruction, Technical Writing for Public Safety Communications, as well as many others.

Hours to Complete: A total of 128 semester hours are required, with 30 required hours in the major.
