Annual Events

The Communication Department hosts a variety of events each year, designed to bring students, faculty, staff, and alumni together on these occasions. Each Fall term the department hosts an Alumni Luncheon, usually held on the Saturday of homecoming week when more alumni are on campus. Each Spring term the department hosts the Ayers Lecture, an event where a prominent individual outside of the JSU community is invited to visit and speak at a public gathering. Each Spring semester the department also hosts what is collectively referred to as "Communication Week", a series of events that includes Digital Journalism Day, Broadcast Day, Public Relations Day, and culminates with a Communication Awards Luncheon.

In 2014 the Ayers Lecture was held on Thursday, March 13 at 1pm on the 11th Floor of Houston Cole Library. David Folkenflik, NPR media correspondent, served as the Ayers lecturer in 2014.

In 2015 Communication Week is scheduled for April 6th through April 9th, with the Communication Awards Luncheon held April 9th. The theme for this year's COM Week is, "The Evolution of Communication in the Digital Age."
