Timeline - 1935 through 1960

1940

December 7, 1940- More than a thousand students and townspeople are at the station to see off Company H of the Alabama National Guard as members leave for camp. The unit is made up primarily of students and former students of the college, and Captain C.W. Daugette, Jr., is leader of the company. While the men are away serving their country, women on the Jacksonville State Teachers College campus will find opportunities in campus leadership that previously were offered only to men.

1942

Houston Cole becomes the seventh president of Jacksonville State College. That same year, the Student Government Association is established on campus. (pictured below)

1946

James H. Jones, a foreign language instructor at Jacksonville State Teachers College, receives Dr. Cole's blessing to form the International House.

Dr. Cole, Coaches Sall and Dillon, and the athletes meet and decide that the "Eagle Owl" mascot will be replaced with the Gamecock, and the school colors will be changed from purple and white to red and white.
