JSU Fan Day August 15

Jacksonville State will host its annual Fan Day on Sunday, August 15th, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Paul Snow Stadium. Make plans to attend and meet the 2004 Gamecock football team, the Gamecock Volleyball team and the Gamecock Soccer team. Fans will also get the opportunity to get autographs on a free JSU pennant! The JSU Marching Southerners will also make an appearance, along with Cocky and the JSU Cheerleaders. Admission is free and there will be concessions available at the stadium.

JSU Power Outage Saturday May Create Minimal Inconveniences

Alternative methods of communication and procedures are in place for Jacksonville State University's planned power outage Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. For university police services, students may place cell phone calls to 782-5050 as usual. A generator backup keeps service intact. Hopper Cafeteria will maintain meal schedules as usual due to a generator backup. Saturday's hours of operation will be as follows: Breakfast: 8:30 - 9:00 a.m., Lunch: 12:45 - 1:15 p.m., and Dinner: 6:45 - 7:15 p.m. Houston Cole Library will be closed Saturday and will have no computer servers available during the outage. Library users at their homes will not be able to access databases and catalogues. Student e-mail services will not be available for use. Campus phone service will be shut down. The outage is necessary to perform maintenance, testing, and calibration of equipment at a substation. Hot spots within the power system have created technical problems and need correction.

Cancellation of JSU Planetarium Summer Program Aug. 14

Due to the JSU campus wide power outage scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2004, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the JSU Planetarium Summer Program scheduled on this date (Saturday, August 14) from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. has been cancelled. Italy native Nicola Fantei moved to Anniston by a fluke and decided to major in art at Jacksonville State University in the same manner. His recent graduation summa cum laude in fine arts and his success as an artist was recently featured in a story in the Anniston Star. MORE >>>

Jacksonville Makes "Best Sports City" List

Jacksonville was listed as a Best Sports City by the Sporting News today. Boston was listed as No. 1, with Oakland-San Francisco-New Jersey tied for No. 2. Jacksonville, Alabama, was ranked at 205 on the list that identified 368 top-ranked cities. See http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2631604.

Federal Employment Workshop on Sept. 29

Career Placement Services will be hosting a Federal Employment Workshop on Wednesday, September 29th, at the Houston Cole Library beginning at 3:00 p.m. Timothy Grey, the Director of Personnel and Training at the Redstone Arsenal, will be leading the sessions to be held in the Library computer lab. In addition to providing students with valuable information about the benefits of Federal Employment, Mr. Grey will personally assist any students that wish to submit a Federal application online. Students that attend this workshop will have the opportunity to ask specific questions as they access the computers and complete the application process with step-by-step instruction. MORE >>>

New Jobs for JSU Students

Ten JSU students were recently hired into Fall co-op positions with Choice Fabricators, Inc. Two students are from the College of Business and eight are from the College of Technology. Job opportunities will range from Human Resources to Robotics and Quality Control. Choice Fabricators was established in Attalla, AL in 1981 and has grown to over 300 employees. They remain a privately owned company with customers that include Emerson Electric, General Electric, Maytag, and Whirlpool. Instructions for Purchasing Online Parking Decals

In an effort to better serve the campus community, the University Police Department has automated the procedure for purchasing parking decals.  The registration process is quick and easy.  Decals are now available for faculty, staff, and students at police.jsu.edu.  Online registration is mandatory for all JSU faculty, staff, and students.  Persons requesting a JSU handicap decal must register for their blue or red decal online before applying for their JSU handicap parking permit at the University Police Department.  MORE >>>

UPD Offers Workshop on Security Devices

The University Police Department invites all Budget Managers, Building Managers, and Deans to the Houston Cole Library on August 13, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. to attend a workshop on security devices. The University Police Department will have a representative from Benham Security on campus to demonstrate several of the newest physical security devices that are on the market. MORE >>>

Montana Rockies Rail Tour Sponsored by JSU Alumni Office

The Alumni Office is offering the Montana Rockies rail tour — three days’ travel on board a steam locomotive during a fall foliage trip 9 – 15 October 2004. The package includes a welcome orientation, six nights' lodging, travel on the train — including daily onboard lunch, guides and narrators, continental breakfasts and non-alcoholic beverages. Photo opportunities will include the historic Livingston Depot Center; Cody, Wyoming; Buffalo Bill Historical Center; and Yellowstone National Park with lunch at Old Faithful Inn. The price per person depends on accommodations: double–$1950, single–$2350. Price includes the excursion and round-trip airfare from Atlanta, Georgia. JSU Nursing Classes Not Listed in the Fall Class Schedule Book

This is an announcement regarding nursing classes which will be offered in Fall 2004 that are not in the JSU Fall Class Schedule Book. Students must be accepted in to upper division to take any of the following undergraduate classes; only MSN students or others approved by Dr. Beth Hembree may take NU 550. MORE >>>

SGA Involvement Meeting Sept. 15th

Attention all Students who want to be involved. SGA Involvement Meeting is to be held at 6:00 p.m., September 15th in the TMB 3rd Floor Auditorium. The SGA Involvement Meeting is for all students who want to become actively involved in the SGA. This meeting will describe all of the committees that students can get involved with and will give the students a chance to see what's available for them.
