'Friendliest Campus' Influences Italian Artist

By Sherry Kughn
JSU News Bureau

August 10, 2004 -- Italy native Nicola Fantei moved to Anniston by a fluke and decided to major in art at Jacksonville State University in the same manner. His recent graduation summa cum laude in fine arts and his success as an artist was recently featured in a story in the Anniston Star.

Mr. Fantei's accomplishment as an artist and his high grades have other universities calling. He wants to pursue his master's degree, though, at JSU because he feels gratitude for those who helped him.

"I have been helped in a way that's really hard to believe for someone who has not lived it," he said in the story called, "The artistic touch."

Fantei's entire past makes him somewhat of a Renaissance man. He has a degree in computer science. He has worked as a professional scuba diver, restaurant owner and race car driver. He has expertise in gourmet cooking, knowledge of wines, Italian opera and art.
