JSU has partnered with Drake State Community & Technical College to allow for a seamless transfer of academic credits and ease of enrollment for students.

On Aug. 25, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the official framework that ensures credit transfers between the two schools in conjunction with the Statewide Transfer and Articulating Reporting System (STARS). A video of the signing ceremony is available on YouTube

With the MOU in place, Drake State students have access to a wide variety of degree programs at Jacksonville State. Students may also earn reverse transfer credits - a process by which a student is awarded an associate degree after transferring and completing degree requirements at a four-year institution.

“This agreement is especially significant because it addresses many of the obstacles that would prevent a student from transferring,” said Drake State President Dr. Patricia Sims. “By streamlining the transfer process, we’re making it easier for students who want to continue their education beyond an associate degree.”

Located in Huntsville, Ala., Drake State was founded in 1961 and is a member of the Alabama Community College System. It offers a wide range of technical degrees, transferable college credits, associate degrees and workforce training for traditional and non-traditional students.

“We are happy to partner with Drake State to ensure students have a seamless transition as they continue their studies at JSU,” said JSU President Dr. Don Killingsworth. “Drake State has a long history of training students for careers that serve Alabama’s workforce. We look forward to helping these students continue their education and potentially increase their earning power with a four-year degree to complement the excellent training they have received at Drake.”

Interested students must meet Jacksonville State admission requirements and may be eligible for scholarship assistance for their first academic year at Jacksonville State. For more information, students should contact the JSU Transfer Pathways office.
