Spirit on Mountain Street Set for Aug. 25

08/11/2016

Eat! Give! Cheer! The City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University are excited to present the 11th annual Spirit on Mountain Street festival and community pep rally on Thursday, August 25, at 6 p.m. outside the main entrance to the JSU Stadium.

Local restaurants will dish up food samples from popular menu items, with Kiwanis Club providing drinks. Children activities – sponsored by the Jacksonville Exchange Club, the Alabama National Guard and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department – will include a dunking booth, face-painting, bounce houses, ring toss and more. Other festivities include an antique car show, cake auction, hotdog-eating contest sponsored by Sonic, a silent auction and door prizes.

At 8 p.m., area high school students will lead a community pep rally kicking off the 2016 school year. Marching bands will perform their school fight songs and cheerleaders will lead school cheers. The JSU Marching Southerners will also perform.

Admission is free and open to the public. Food tastings and activities cost $1 per ticket, available for purchase at the gate. Proceeds benefit the Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center (JCOC), a non-profit organization governed by representatives from more than 20 participating churches throughout the Jacksonville area. It combines the benevolence of area churches to better assist those in need in the community. Learn more at www.jaxfumc.org/community.
