Calhoun County Civic Chorale’s Spring Concert Celebrates Nature on April 6, 2014

Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. the Calhoun County Civic Chorale will present its spring concert at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. The concert, entitled “In Praise of Nature and the Divine”, possesses choral repertoire that explores the connection between nature and spirituality.

The featured work on the program is Benjamin Britten’s “Rejoice in the Lamb” with text taken from a longer poem by 18th Century poet, Christopher Smart. The concert will also include choral pieces of poetry by Robert Frost, James Agee and Winifred Letts. Composers such as Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen and Daniel Brinsmead set these pieces. 

The Calhoun County Civic Chorale is under the direction of JSU Director of Choral Activities, Patricia Corbin. Vicki Brock, who is one of five choirs sponsored by the JSU David L. Walters Department of Music, accompanies Corbin. Singers in the Chorale are community members, JSU faculty, and students. Chorale members Anne Kerr, Kathy Murphy, Gavin Haynes, Justin Westley, Lisa Metcalfe and Landon Shirey will be featured soloists.
