Little River Canyon Half Marathon and Rendezvous at the Rim WIll Be Oct. 12


Celebrate autumn at Jacksonville State University’s Little River Canyon Center and the Little River Canyon National Preserve for the Canyon Half Marathon and Rendezvous at the Rim. Join us for guided walks and activities, a chance to earn a Junior Ranger Badge, food and an all around good time.

Date: Saturday, October 12, 2013
Time: 8 AM to 3 PM
Where: At the Canyon Center along Highway 35. Fort Payne, Alabama 35967
Cost: Free! Donations gratefully accepted.


7-8 a.m. Half Marathon Runners sign in
8 a.m. Half Marathon begins
8:30 a.m. Rendezvous at the Rim begins
8:30 a.m. Un-Natural Trail Hike for children (JSU Field Schools)
8:30 - 9:30 a.m.

Photography Hike

Improve your photography with John Dersham.

For all ages-- Bring your own camera

9:30 a.m. Storytelling ("Brother Leaf") and Mask Making for children with Renee S. Morrison, JSU Field Schools
10 a.m. Fly fishing demo with JSU's Dr. Chris Murdock
10-10:45 a.m. History of Little River Canyon with NPS Ranger Larry Beane and the DeKalb Historical Society
10:30 a.m. Hiss and Sslither Reptile Program (JSU Field Schools)
9 a.m. - 10:30 and 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Music by Gypsy Begonias (Folk Music) at the Canyon Center entry
10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Music by Microwave Dave (Blues music)
11 a.m. Half Marathon Awards
11:30 a.m. High Angle Rescue Demonstration with Fisher Rescue
11:30 a.m. Growl Prowl interactive Nature Hike (JSU Field Schools)

Picnic lunch: 10:00 to 2:00 PM
BBQ, potato chips and pickle slice -- $6:00.
Drinks: water, coke, diet coke, sprite, coffee -- $1.00.
