Megan Brittain Day in Jacksonville

Friends and family inspired by the courage of 12-year-old Megan Brittain will have the opportunity to come out and show their support for her on Monday, May 4, which has been declared Megan Brittain Day in Jacksonville.

Megan, daughter of JSU Baptist Campus Minister Gary Brittain and the late Sharon Brittain, continues to wage a tough fight against Rhabdomyosarcoma, the form of cancer with which she was diagnosed in the summer of 2007.

On the day of the event, supporters and members of Relay for Life "Team Megan" will organize in the parking lot of Kitty Stone Elementary School in Jacksonville between 6-6:15 p.m. The procession will follow Megan, who will be travling by car, up the hill to the public square, where there will be a pep rally in her honor and a special proclamation from Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith at 6:30 p.m. Local marching bands and other special guests will be on hand to play music and participate in this special event.

Participants are encouraged to wear their Team Megan shirts or any blue shirt (Megan's favorite color). Come early to buy blue pom poms for $1 and blue pinwheels for 25 cents on which to write messages for Megan. The pinwheels will be presented to Megan in a special way on Tuesday, May 5.

There will also be snow cones, cotton candy and more available at the pep rally. All proceeds go to Relay for Life.

If you would like to help spread the word by distributing flyers, a printable version is available here.

REMINDER: There will also be a blood drive for Megan on Friday, May 1. For more information, please click here.
