Crystal is the traditional gift for 15th anniversaries.

But for its 15th anniversary, the Visual Arts Society of Jacksonville State University would prefer that you buy art.

Specifically, the art offered up at its Spring Gala and Art Auction, set for Friday night at the Anniston Museum of Natural History.

Local artists have donated many pieces, including paintings, photographs and sculptures in hopes of raising money for JSU's art department. Money from the art in live and silent auctions will be used for scholarships, visiting artists, lectures and equipment for the department. Over the years, the society has funded more than 20 scholarships.

Along with art, bottles of wine also will be up for auction, donated by local wine lovers.

Food, made by members of the society, will include beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin, pasta salad, marinated vegetables, brie cheese with homemade caramel, fresh fruit and assorted desserts.

Admission is $20 per person for society members and $25 per person for non-members. For reservations, call 782-5626.
