1000 Lbs. of Alabama Clay

A traveling exhibition of 35 contemporary,
Alabama, ceramic artists using native Alabama clay
in each artist's unique, individual style

Curated by Lynnette Hesser
Hammond Hall Art Gallery
March 3 - March 27, 2009

"1000 Lbs of Alabama Clay" is a traveling exhibition celebrating the creativity of contemporary, Alabama clay artists using Alabama clay dug from the Tuscaloosa and Mobile areas and is supported the Alabama Craft Council.
Curator Lynnette Hesser of Wellington chose ceramic artists working either sculpturally or functionally who are college professors or professional, studio artists. The artists are known both statewide and nationally and have extensive exhibition records and impressive resumes. Each artist received about 100 lbs of Alabama clay from which they created pieces in their own unique styles and used various ceramic firing techniques including high and mid-fire reduction and oxidation atmospheres, woodfire, Raku, and pit firings.
