Cookbook Released in Celebration of
the Higher Education Partnership’s 10th Anniversary

Montgomery, AL, November 2007

The Higher Education Partnership is proud to present it’s very first cookbook in commemoration of a decade of existence. “The Scholarly Gourmet: A Collection of Recipes from Alabama’s Public Universities” is a celebration of the Higher Education Partnership’s ten year anniversary and a “slice of university life.”  This is an outstanding cookbook.

In the South, a cookbook is certainly an appropriate tool through which to celebrate. From the traditional “blessing of the food” to the after-dinner coffee, people of Alabama congregate and celebrate around food. We love to share wonderful stories around the dinner table. We pass along great traditions while we dine. It is for each of these reasons that this collection of favorite recipes, alumni profiles and institutional icons provides a perfect way to celebrate.

This beautiful cookbook is filled with recipes, stories and photographs of famous alumni. It also includes photos and history of university landmarks, little-known facts of each university and over 250 recipes from faculty, staff and alumni of Alabama’s public universities. Read stories from featured alumni which include actors Jim Nabors from the University of Alabama (UA) and George Lindsey from the University of North Alabama (UNA), football greats John Stallworth from Alabama A & M and Demarcus Ware from Troy University and radio personalities Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey (Jacksonville State University).  Authors Deborah Ford (UNA), Cassandra King Conroy (University of Montevallo), Winston Groom (UA), and Bill Cobb (University of West Alabama) tell stories of their lives in Alabama.  Other featured alumni include former executive-editor of Redbook Magazine, Judy Culbreth (University of South Alabama), civil rights activist, Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth (Alabama State University), astronauts Jim Voss (Auburn University), Jan Davis (University of Alabama in Huntsville) and Larry DeLucas (University of Alabama at Birmingham) and children’s advocate Sue McInnish (Auburn University Montgomery).

The Scholarly Gourmet is a beautiful book that will provide for hours of great reading and cooking. The cookbook will be available on December 10, 2007.  Books can be purchased from the Higher Education Partnership office. Order forms are also available by going to our website at www.higheredpartners.org.  Orders can be sent by email.
