Marching Southerners' Salute to Megan
Jacksonville Christmas Parade

Megan is the daughter of Gary Brittain, Campus Minister, Baptist Campus Ministries, Jacksonville State University.

Megan's father is the person who provides the popsicles to the Marching Southerners during band camp!!!

Megan is eleven years old. She injured her right ankle while practicing for all-star softball, but hobbled through the tournament. Later, her back started to hurt. Escalating pain sent Megan to two doctors and physical therapy, then to Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed with two tumors called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Megan is now three months into a year-long treatment regimen.

Cancer is not new to the Brittain family. Megan's Mom lost her almost seven-year battle to breast cancer in February 2007. Megan reflects her Mother's resilience in the way she keeps going with her life, refusing to give in to the effects of chemotherapy.

A Letter from Ken Bodiford, Director, Marching Southerners is now posted on Megan's Website: www.caringbridge.org/visit/meganbrittain

Hello Megan,

We're 12 days away from the Jacksonville Christmas Parade and we, The Marching Southerners, have something very special planned just for you.

We know that blue is your favorite color and that you are using colors to show how you are feeling.

Blue = Good

Did you know...

My favorite color is blue, too?

There are almost 400 members in the marching band at JSU?

The Southerners' color guard used blue flags in their show this year?

JSU Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps color is baby blue?

The Jacksonville Christmas parade is Tuesday, November 27?

For the Christmas parade this year, all of the members of The Marching Southerners will have blue ribbons tied to their arms and the color guard will be using blue flags?
This is our way of showing our support of you and the challenges you face. If you're feeling up to it, we hope you can make it to the parade.

Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts. Hello to your Dad.

Love,

Mr. Bodiford
Director of Bands
