JSU Alumnus to Deliver Biology Seminar


Dr. P. Brent Nichols

JSU Alumnus Dr. P. Brent Nichols is delivering a seminar to biology faculty/staff and students entitled  FROM DNA TO D.N.A.: The Evolution of a Dauphin Island Derelict.  The seminar is being held Friday, November 9, Martin Hall Rm. 130 beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Dr. Nichols currently serves as the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), Director of Scientific Research, DNA Environmental Logistics Corporation, Tampa, FL.

Dr. Nichols' career experience began in 1996 when as a field scientist for NASA EPSCoR he investigated the potential use of aquatic plants in  phytoremediation of heavy metals and canopy structure and spectral reflectance of under story shrubs.  Dr. Nichols' scientific expertise is in terrestrial and marine ecology, particularly invertebrate systematics and seagrass ecology.  He has conducted several marine surveys in conjuction with NOAA Fisheries, Florida Oceanographic Institute, and the Florida Marine Research Institute.  He is an AAUS certified research diver, PADI Cavern diver, and NAUI Rescue diver.

Dr. Nichols is an alumnus of JSU earning both a BS and MS in Biology. He earned his PhD from the University of South Florida--also in Biology.
