Family Weekend at DeSoto State Park
October 26-27

JSU Field Schools and DeSoto State Park will offer fun activities this weekend for families who want to learn about nature together. Join JSU Field Schools naturalist and storyteller Renee Morrison for fun Campfire Talks on Friday and Saturday nights and register for the family hike on Saturday. (See programs listed below.)



Campfire Talks - October 26-27

"Ghosts on the Mountain"
Friday - October 26, 2007
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

A spooky storytelling guaranteed to put shivers up your spine! Learn about Alabama's finest spooks, legends and folklore from JSU Field School's Renee Morrison.

"My Life as a Black & Tan Hound Dog"
Saturday - October 27, 2007
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Storytelling and knee-slapping humor as JSU Field School's Renee Morrison tells true stories about growing up on her Granddad's dairy farm.

JSU Field Schools partner with Alabama State Parks to offer an interesting, educational and entertaining series of FREE programs known as “Campfire Talks.”  These programs are offered every Friday and Saturday evening (May – October) at DeSoto State Park’s Campfire Circle.  Thousands of families enjoy these programs annually. Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable chair. Talks will be located in the Nature Center in case of rain.

Plan a family campout or a weekend at DeSoto State Park’s lovely lodge, cabins or chalets…or just drop by one evening and enjoy the program!

Family Hike - Saturday, October 27

"A Stroll through the Forest"

Join JSU Field Schools for an easy hike on the trails of DeSoto State Park. Family friendly!

Meet at DeSoto State Park Nature Center. There is no fee to participate in the hike.
