OIRA Publications Now Available Online
The Office of Institutional Research
and Assessment announces availability of four on-line publications. JSU At
a Glance, Momentum, the 2006-2007 Trustees Report to the Alabama Commission
on Higher Education, and the JSU Retention Study are now available online
on the OIRA website (www.jsu.edu/depart/oira).
At a Glance, the JSU Quick Facts, encapsulates
vital information about enrollment at JSU and has been updated to reflect Fall
2007 data. In addition to general enrollment figures, At a Glance breaks
out student demographics by undergraduate and
graduate status, college, ethnicity and nationality, first-time freshmen and
first-time transfer status, distance education and age. Full-time equivalency is also

Momentum, the OIRA newsletter, begins its
second year of publication with this issue. The eight-page newsletter features
articles about new PRISM updates, a guide and checklist for PRISM planning and
reporting, assessment for non-academic units, first-year freshman retention at
JSU, and results from OIRA’s recent evaluation. Regular features include updates

The 2006-2007 Trustees Report to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education is compiled
by the Reporting Subcommittee of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee,
chaired by Mr. Bill Hubbard, University Librarian. The report, which was
approved at the last Board of Trustees meeting, is online at www.jsu.edu/depart/oira/REPORTS/Report to Trustees 2007 Final Final.pdf.
A recent study, First-Year Freshmen Retention at
Past, Present and Future, a report by Dr. Alicia Simmons, Director
of Institutional Research and Assessment is located at
ir.jsu.edu/OIRA_campus_access/JSU Retention Study.pdf. This report reviews past
retention rates and makes recommendations for expanding the study of first-year
freshmen retention at JSU.
