International House to Hold Annual UN Day Tea Oct. 21

Jacksonville State University's International House is holding its  annual United Nations Day Tea Sunday, October 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Colonel C.W. Daugette Jr. International House. The program consists of a formal presentation of this year's residents of the International House dressed in native costumes and a 50-minute program of native dance and song followed by refreshments and a social gathering to the tea.

The JSU community—faculty, staff and the public—are invited to the tea.

According to Dr. Ketterer, the Director of the International House, “The International House at JSU provides a model of harmonious cooperation and leadership.” In our own way, we share this goal with the UN and attempt to provide an example of diversity and tolerance that is very much needed in today's world. Therefore our UN Day Tea has always coincided closely with the internationally recognized celebration of United Nations Day.”

According to the United Nations website at www.un.org , the United Nations came into existence on October 24, 1945, when the charter was ratified by “China, France, The Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories.” United Nations Day is celebrated on October 24 each year.
