JSU Professor Dr. Lori Owens
Named Chairman of the Board
AL Higher Education Partnership
Lori Owens, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Administration
at Jacksonville State University, has been elected to serve as chairman of the
board of the Alabama Higher Education Partnership. Dr. Owens was elected as chairman at the
Partnership’s summer conference.
Higher Education Partnership is an advocacy organization representing students,
faculty, staff, alumni and other supporters of Alabama’s four-year public
universities. The goal of the
Partnership is to provide a common voice and an organized effort to take a
stand for Alabama’s public universities. The Partnership was organized in 1997
and has grown into a strong voice
for educational opportunities.
remarked, “I look forward to working with Partnership Executive Director Gordon
Stone in making sure that our universities receive the necessary support. I admire the success that university
presidents and other Partnership members have achieved on behalf of higher
education. I have been taking my
students to Higher Education Day in Montgomery for several years, so I look
forward to becoming even more involved in the process.”

Dr. Lori J. Owens earned a Doctorate in Political Science and an outside minor in U.S.
Constitutional History from The University of Alabama, where she also earned
her Masters Degree in Political Science.
She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Jacksonville
Dr. Owens served two terms on the JSU Faculty Senate and is currently a member of the Political
Relations Committee at Jacksonville State University. She also serves as the Faculty Advisor for
the College Republicans, the Political Science Model Arab League Debate Team, and
the Pre-Law Society. Dr. Owens serves on
the Alabama Women’s Commission and is an Academic Associate for The Atlantic
