Inaugural Tera Ross Memorial
Fall Softball Tournament

Tera Ross

The Jacksonville Sate softball team will host the Inaugural Tera Ross Memorial Classic fall tournament on Sept. 29-30 at the Oxford Lake Softball Complex in Oxford, Ala., JSU head coach Jana McGinnis announced on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks will play six games in the two-day event that will feature 12 college and junior college teams, all from Alabama and Georgia. JSU will open the event at 9 a.m. against Snead State on Saturday morning. In all, there are 38 games scheduled for the tournament, which will be played on four fields at the complex. Admission charge is $5.00.

The tournament is named in memory of former JSU pitcher Tera Ross, a three-time letterwinner that was killed in an automobile accident just before her senior season. As a junior, she led the team in 2003 with a 1.17 ERA, still the third-lowest in school history. She ranks in the top five in JSU’s career record books in four categories: strikeouts, innings pitched, wins and games started. Her 36 appearances in 2002 are still tied for the school record in a single season.
