Present JSU Physics Professor's View
of the Night Skies at DeSoto State Park

Join Astronomer Dr. Laura Weinkauf, JSU Physics Professor, for enlightening Campfire Talks on the night skies at DeSoto State Park from an astronomical observation October 19-20. (See programs listed below.)



Campfire Talks - October 19-20

"Constellations from Lookout Mountain"
Friday - October 19, 2007
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Join JSU astronomer Dr. Laura Weinkauf in an out-of-this world experience as she explores the science and myths of the constellations visible from Lookout Mountain.

"Moon Views"
Saturday - October 20, 2007
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Dr. Weinkauf's presentation reveals the science and mysteries of our closest celestial neighbor and other moons in our solar system.

JSU Field Schools partner with Alabama State Parks to offer an interesting, educational and entertaining series of FREE programs known as “Campfire Talks.”  These programs are offered every Friday and Saturday evening (May – October) at DeSoto State Park’s Campfire Circle.  Thousands of families enjoy these programs annually. Seating is limited, so bring your own comfortable chair. Talks will be located in the Nature Center in case of rain. Plan a family campout or a weekend at DeSoto State Park’s lovely lodge, cabins or chalets…or just drop by one evening and enjoy the program!
