"Take A Friend or Loved One to the Health Fair" at JSU

Counseling and Career Services, University Housing and Residence Life,  and the JSU Peer Educators are sponsoring a project called "Take a Friend/Loved One to the Health Fair" on Tuesday, September 18, in Theron Montgomery Building (TMB) Auditorium, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

 

This annual event is linked to the national "Take a Loved One to the Doctor's Day." Various agencies countywide are participating in this outreach project for all Calhoun County residents. This year marks the fifth annual Health Fair at JSU.

The West Anniston Foundation is providing free diabetes checks and obesity screening. They are also offering free gift cards to the first twenty-five persons completing a screening.  They are giving free t-shirts to all participants who complete a project.

The Health Services Center, Hobson City, and AIM of Birmingham are providing and syphilis testing and also the HIV/AIDS OraQuick testing with rapid response. (For more information on the OraQuick test, see the Web site OraQuick Rapid HIV Test for Oral Fluid).  Free sickle cell testing is also being offered by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America - Central Alabama Chapter..

The Calhoun County Mental Health Center is providing free depression screening, and the the Calhoun County Health Department is offering free blood pressure checks. Regional Hospital is providing free cholesterol testing. Dr. Terry Bonds is offering free vision screening.

Other participants in this year's Health Fair are the JSU Student Health Center, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the JSU Wellness Center, the Calhoun County Extension Service, NAMI (Jacksonville), Curves, Sarrell Regional Dental Center, Tap Pharmaceuticals, Daybreak Crisis Center, 2nd Chance, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the JSU Residence Hall Association. Refreshments are being provided by the JSU University Housing and Residence Life Department.
