JSU's IVC Course Offerings at JSCC's St. Clair Center

Jacksonville State University, in partnership with Jefferson State Community College, will be offering undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Leadership and Business at Jefferson State’s new St. Clair Center in Pell City beginning in January 2007.

The classes will be offered through interactive videoconferencing (IVC).  Through IVC, students are able to share ideas with peers in the classroom and with other sites while receiving instruction from a professor through an advanced teleconferencing system.  The system combines the power of video, voice, computer and document exchange by connecting classrooms through a multipoint control unit and high speed data connections.

“We are very pleased to work with Jefferson State Community College in bringing distance education opportunities to students in St. Clair and surrounding counties.  We look forward to the close working relationship between the two campuses as we utilize state of the art technology,” said Dr. Franklin King, associate vice president for Distance Education at Jacksonville State University.

Graduate level courses in Educational Leadership are scheduled to be offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings.  Education classes scheduled for the spring term are EAD 562, School Administration, on Monday evenings and EAD 553, Instructional Leadership, on Tuesday evenings.

Upper level undergraduate and graduate level courses in business administration are scheduled to be offered on Wednesday and Thursdays.  Business classes scheduled for the spring term are ACC 512, Accounting Information Analysis, on Wednesday evenings and MKT 301, Principles of Marketing, on Thursday evenings.

IVC is one of many formats that allow students to attend Jacksonville State University from a distance.    In addition to IVC, JSU offers video-based courses as well as on-line courses.  Approximately 120 different courses will be offered in the spring through a distance format. Additional information regarding distance education at JSU can be found on the web at distance.jsu.edu.
