JSU, Jefferson State Sign Partnership Agreement
on Videoconferencing Courses

Jacksonville State University and Jefferson State Community College signed a partnership agreement that allows students to take JSU Interactive Videoconferencing Courses (IVC) at Jefferson State Community College's St. Clair Center in Pell City.

 

“We are fortunate to be able to expand our course section offerings and utilize Jefferson State Community College’s new St. Clair Center,” said Dr. William A. Meehan, president of Jacksonville State University.  “This partnership will allow working adults to continue their education through Jacksonville State University; many are students who might not otherwise have been able to do so.” 

 

Through IVC, students are able to share ideas with peers in the classroom and with other sites while receiving instruction from a professor through an advanced teleconferencing system.  The system combines the power of video, voice, computer and document exchange by connecting classrooms through a multipoint control unit and high speed data connections.

 

JSU will offer graduate courses in educational administration and graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in commerce and business administration at the site.    Evening courses will be offered beginning in the spring of 2007.

 

“We are very pleased to work with Jefferson State Community College in bringing distance education opportunities to students in St. Clair and surrounding counties.  We look forward to the close working relationship between the two campuses as we utilize state of the art technology,” said Dr. Franklin King, associate vice president for Distance Education, Jacksonville State University.

 

The Jefferson State Community College St. Clair Center is a 43,000 square foot, multi-level facility with the ability to support up to 1,500 students.   It is located just north of I-20, off exit 158.
