JSU Strategic Plan Survey Report- Summary

Office of Institutional Research and Assessment

November 2006

During a two week timeframe from October 23, 2006 through November 3, 2006, 276 responded to JSU’s Strategic Plan Survey, yielding results that will assist the Strategic Planning Committee in moving forward with finalizing JSU’s first comprehensive strategic plan. The Strategic Planning committee will meet in December to review the results of the survey, discuss implementation issues, and finalize the plan for presentation to the Board of Trustees in January.

A total of 147 students, 71 faculty, and 52 administrators/staff, and 6 others completed the 19 item survey.  Table 1 reports the distribution of the respondents.

Links to the draft strategic plan, vision statement, mission statement, and a glossary of terms facilitated respondents in examining the documents referenced in the survey items.  Respondents had the opportunity to 1-strongly disagree, 2-disagree, 3-agree, or 4-strongly agree with the items that addressed characteristics of a strategic plan (i.e., specific, supports a desirable future, measurable, attainable, realistic, etc.) and overall agreement with strategies and action items developed for each of the 7 university goals.

The percentage of respondents who agreed or strongly agreed with each item is displayed in Table 2. At least 80% of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed with every item except for “the strategic plan is attainable within the next 5 years,” for which 76.6% of the respondents agreed.  More than 90% of the respondents agreed with the item, “The strategic plan is relevant to the university’s mission.”
