"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"

For most of Veterans Day, it was rain, not stars, that fell on Alabama as the Jacksonville State University Southerners celebrated their 50th anniversary. But it would have taken much more than a few showers to dampen the spirits of the 1,300 former and current band members who gathered for a weekend of reminiscing. The event began Friday night with a barbecue and rehearsal at the Paul Snow Stadium and ended late Saturday when the group took to the field for a rousing rendition of the a cappella favorite ‘I’ll Fly Away.’ In between there were tears of joy, special presentations to charter members of the elite corps, and a moving musical journey through the sounds of a half century of Southerners.
