A Message from Dr. Meehan

Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, and Administrators,

Thank you for making our Veterans Day weekend Football game, Donor Appreciation Day, and Southerners’ Reunion a rousing success.  We proudly recognized our service men and women and all veterans, thanks to our Army ROTC pre-game activities.  The Southerners’ 50th Year Reunion was a highlight of the halftime, as hundreds of the band’s alumni returned from as far away as Iceland and Australia to share memories and, finally, a grand, joint performance by current and former Southerners.

Jacksonville State University’s football team scored a 55-7 win over Samford, which was the biggest margin of victory in the OVC series and the seventh straight win by JSU over Samford. Head Football Coach Jack Crowe and our players deserve loud applause.

Also on November 11, Jacksonville State University held Donor Appreciation Day to say thank-you to our many supporters who are enthusiastically making our $25 million fund-raising program a success. JSU has reached 64 percent of the $25 million goal.

I also note with equal pride the performance of our Volleyball team, which made history by winning 51 of its last 52 games.  Volleyball Head Coach Rick Nold and the Volleyball squad won accolades with their win over Southeast Missouri State (SEMO). Even with a loss in the second game, the win secured the best season in Division I history and tied Eastern Kentucky for the fewest games lost in an OVC season.

JSU is blessed with thousands of dedicated students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends, as evidenced by the weekend’s exceptional outcome. Thank you for your continuing support.

Sincerely,

William A. Meehan

President
