Academe Meeting Nov. 14
On Tuesday, November 14, 2006, Academe will meet in 1103C, Houston Cole Library, Jacksonville State University at 3:15 p.m. Jordan Barkley, Department of Secondary Education, and Gloria Horton, Department of English, will discuss "Better Readers, Better Writers, Better Thinkers, Better Students: Strategies for Improving Student Performance in the Classroom.

Both presenters have done extensive research in the field of adolescent reading, and they will share some of the findings of that research as it relates to college students. They will also discuss several easy ways to ensure that students comprehend the nonfiction texts that make up the majority of what they will read as they pursue a college education. They will use Bloom's Taxonomy and Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences as a theoretical base for the practical strategies they will share.
