Services for Norman Isdore Carrin Jacksonville - Funeral services for Norman Isdore Carrin, 45, of Jacksonville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Revs. Michael G. Rich and Stan Easton officiating, K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing services. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Carrin died Thursday, September 28, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Manuja Jacob-Carrin, of Jacksonville; his parents, Bobby and Velma Louise Carrin, Apalachicola, Fla.; a sister, Bobbie Carrin, of Apalachicola, Fla.; and two nieces, Crystal Carrin and Lauren Tarrantino. Mr. Carrin was born in Port St. Joe, Fla., but called Apalachicola his hometown. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a graduate of Florida State University and Jacksonville State from which he earned a master's degree in public administration. He taught as a graduate assistant at JSU and worked as a resident assistant. He was active in community service from an early age and was very active in the Teen Challenge program in Birmingham. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. Rotaract Seeking Advisor The JSU Rotaract Club is looking for a faculty advisor. Dr. Harris Offers Swing Class Oct. 9; Register by Oct. 4 The JSU Office of Continuing Education and Dr. Ronnie Harris want to offer you a way to get some exercise while having fun. Dr. Harris will be teaching a swing dance class on Monday nights, October 9-November 6, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at Pete Mathews Coliseum Dance Studio. The cost for the class is $25.00 per person. Partners are preferred but singles are welcome. Please register by October 4. Swing dance is the dance of the 1950's -- Big Band Dance and Jitterbug. Assessment Survey Information Recently, 164 faculty, staff, and administrators responded to the Assessment Subcommittee's request to participate in a survey focused on assessment at JSU. From the pool of respondents who entered the drawing, 10 were then randomly selected to receive an embroidered JSU backpack, compliments of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA). Winners of the backpacks were: Debbie Curry- Nursing; Shirley Jean Johnson- Mathematics; Earl Warren- Institutional Development; Bill Hug- English; Wendy Faughn- Music; Sumer Buckner- Nursing; Janet L. Smart- English; LaJoyce H. Debro- Biology; Kaci Ogle- Alumni Affairs; and Charles Notar- Secondary Education. Findings from the Assessment Survey will be printed in the debut edition of OIRA's newsletter, Momentum, which will be distributed via campus mail in early October. PEEHIP Open Enrollment Reminder The deadline for enrolling or making changes to your PEEHIP Flexible Spending Plan coverage is September 30, 2006. All forms for PEEHIP changes should be mailed directly to PEEHIP and must be post marked on or before September 30, 2006. PEEHIP forms can be found on their website at www.rsa.state.al or you can contact the Human Resources Department at ext. 5007 to request forms. If you have questions, please feel free to contact KaSandra Russaw, manager of Benefits & HRIS, in the Human Resources Department at ext. 8893. SPECIAL REMINDER - If you currently participate in BenefitElect we will no longer be using them effective Dec. 31, 2006. If you are a current BenefitElect participant and wish to participate in PEEHIP you have two options: Begin participation in PEEHIP's flex plan effective October 1, with the understanding that for two months you will have deductions from both PEEHIP and BenefitElect. Also, you will need to remember that there is a $5,000 annual contribution limit. Or, enroll into PEEHIP's flex plan on January 1, 2007 for a short plan year (January 1 - September 30th). Enrolling in PEEHIP on January 1 will allow you 9 months of contributions before the end of the plan year. The student will work 20 hours per week doing simple sound editing for a public service radio program.
