Little River Canyon Center Construction to Begin

Construction on the Little River Canyon Center is expected to begin by mid-autumn, said Pete Conroy, director of the Environmental Policy Information Center and the Little River Canyon Field School of Jacksonville State University.

Conroy led area and state officials on a tour of the Little River Canyon Center site on Monday morning.

The center will be built on property along Alabama 35, less than a mile from Little River Falls.

Conroy said the building will be primarily constructed of materials that are natural or made of recycled substances.

"The structure will blend with the environment," he said. "We will definitely retain the scenic views we now see in the background."

The center will include meeting rooms, classrooms, labs, exhibit area, a gift shop, a catering kitchen, a library, porches on the back and front, as well as offices for the National Park Service personnel who manage the Little River Canyon National Preserve.
