Castel Sant' Angelo

Dr. Frank Romano, biology department head, captured this night image of Castel Sant' Angelo, which figures prominently in Dan Brown's book, Angels & Demons. The central portion was built by Emperor Hadrian in AD 130 as his family mausoleum. The castle went on to become a fortress, papal residence, a prison, and a Roman version of Ft. Knox. Romano shot the scene around 10 p.m. during a vacation in 2004.
