Faculty/Staff Invited to Help During Day of Caring Aug. 12

Faculty and staff are invited to lend a hand on Friday, August 12, during JSU's participation in the United Way Day of Caring.

President William A. Meehan said, "Employees who would like to help may do so during work hours without counting the time off as annual leave. I hope many of our faculty and staff will assist with this worthy cause."

The Day of Caring involves performing light work for the sake of charity. JSU's assigned project involves general maintenance at All Saints Interfaith Center of Concern in Anniston.

Tasks will include mowing, weed-eating, sweeping, replacing shingles above the front door, mopping and waxing floors, painting, and cleaning. Tools and supplies will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.

JSU will be among approximately 30 organizations participating in East Central Alabama's Day of Caring.

The All Saints Interfaith Center of Concern, located at 1029 West 15th Street, Anniston, provides direct relief to needy individuals and families of Anniston and Calhoun County who are referred by qualified medical and social service organizations. The center provides relief in the form of goods and financial assistance. Goods include food, clothing, furniture, and basic household items. Financial assistance includes payment for prescription medications, emergency medical and dental care, rent, basic utilities, and transportation for medical and urgent care.

To volunteer or for more information, contact Joe Whitmore, director of the Office of Special Services, at ext. 8555 or e-mail him at whitmore@jsu.edu.
