Law Enforcement Academy
136th Basic Session Graduates

The graduation ceremony for the 136th Basic Training Class of the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) was held Thursday, December 8. 2005. The commencement speaker was S.A.C. James M. Cavanaugh, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Nashville Field Division.

The 45 members of the 136th graduating class of the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy took the oath of office upon graduating from the Academy. Police departments screen potential cadets, hire them and send them through basic training at a cost of $4,000 to $6,000 each. Cadets attend this basic training session for 12 weeks.

Class officers included Jennifer Thomason, Greenville Police Department, President; Carter Halfman, Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Vice President; and John Clark, Rainsville Police Department, Chaplain.

Justin Wright, Florence Police Department, was presented with the Academic Award; John Clark, Rainsville Police Department, received the Firearms Award; and Waylon Hinkle, Homewood Police Department, received the Director's Award.
