JSU Drama Dept. Presents The Member of the Wedding

The students shown here are Jacob Phillips, who plays the role of John Henry, Carmen Briggs, playing the role of Bernice, and Kelly Summers, playing the role of Frankie.

JSU Drama presents the second show of the 2005-2006 season. Carson McCullers' classic drama, The Member of the Wedding, will open November 17 at 7:00 p.m. and will run the 18th and 19th also at 7:00 p.m. and the 20th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for JSU personnel and senior citizens, and $5 for students and military. Call 256-782-5648 for reservations.

Shown here is another scene featuring the three main characters.

This 1950 Critics Choice Award winner deals with the life of an overly imaginative young girl from Georgia. McCullers' masterful writing "deals with the torturing dreams, the hungry egotism, and the heartbreak of childhood in a manner as rare as it is welcome . . . plainly, it is the work of an artist."

Frankie Addams, an angst-ridden, pre-pubescent tomboy, spends hours daydreaming. The motherless youngster fantasizes about being a member of her brother's wedding but is saddened when she learns she won't be going along on the honeymoon. Mr. Addams, Frankie's father, is oblivious to the physical and emotional changes his daughter's going through. So when she's troubled, Frankie turns to Bernice, the family's black cook, with whom she finds solace, companionship and joy. This show contains some mild period racial language but should be suitable for ages 13 and older.

All performances are held on the mainstage of Ernest Stone Performing Arts Center, Corner of Church Avenue and Eleventh Street.
