Service to Celebrate Life of Dr. James Fairleigh Oct. 30

A service of music and readings will be held on Sunday, 30 October 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Henry Road, Anniston, to celebrate the life and contributions of Dr. James Fairleigh.

Dr. Fairleigh served as music department head at Jacksonville State University as well as director of music at First Presbyterian Church. He retired in 2000. Before his death in the spring, he lived in Seneca, South Carolina.

A native of St. Joseph, Missouri, Dr. Fairleigh was married to Marlane Paxson Fairleigh and they have two children. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received graduate degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan. Prior to his arrival at Jacksonville State University, he taught at Rhode Island College and Hanover College in Indiana. He was active as a performer and scholarly writer.

The event on Sunday will celebrate Dr. Fairleigh’s life through music by featuring various choirs and instrumental chamber ensembles from Jacksonville State University and First Presbyterian Church. A variety of musical selections will be performed. The public is cordially invited to attend.
