Jacksonville State University Department of Drama presents the opening production of the 2005-2006 theatre season, the comedy, Arms and the Man, by George Bernard Shaw. The Production will run October 20, 21, and 22 at 7:00 p.m. and October 23 at 2:00 p.m.

It’s late November, 1885. Raina’s fiancé, Sergius, has just led the cavalry charge responsible for a great victory. Shots ring out in the street—a man enters through Raina’s balcony window—he is a Serbian officer on the run. He threatens her. Although she is appalled by his ungentlemanly manner, she agrees to hide him anyway. The romantic and willful Raina is about to begin her true-life adventure by sheltering the handsome fugitive who is the enemy of her equally handsome fiancé. The men may all be heroes—or fools since this is Shaw’s comic view of Balkan chivalry—but the women are definitely more than their match.

Shown here, from left, is Steven DiBlasi, who plays the Serbian officer and handsome fugitive befriended by Raina. Justin Ridgeway, right, plays Raina's equally handsome fiancé Sergius, a leader of the calvary and enemy of this Serbian officer.

This production should be appropriate for middle school ages and older.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for JSU personnel and senior citizens, and $5 for students and military. For reservations and ticket information, please call 256-782-5648. All performances will be held at Ernest Stone Performing Arts Center, corner of Church Avenue and Eleventh Street.
