JSU Hires Vinson Houston
as Manager of Telecommunications

Vinson Houston

Jacksonville State University has named Vinson Houston, a Talladega native, as manager of university telecommunications.

Houston fills the position vacated by Evin Thompson, who retired. Houston reports to Vice President for Information Technology Randy Harper.

"It is a tremendous honor to come back and serve the university," said Houston. "JSU has provided me with the tools and knowledge to be a success."

Mr. Houston earned a master's in business administration at JSU in 2000 and also earned a bachelor's in English and history at JSU in 1996. He has worked for ITC/Deltacom as an account executive for the past five years.

The telecommunications manger is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, and operation of the university telephone center. The telephone center provides local and long distance calling, voice-mail, and caller-ID services for all of JSU's faculty/staff at the main campus and for students living in university housing.

The center oversees the telephone system for Kitty Stone Elementary. The department also facilitates system repairs and upgrades.

"I perceive this as a great opportunity," said Mr. Houston. "I have every intention on honoring the code of excellence this institution has setforth."

Houston can be reached at (256)782-5993 or  vhouston@jsu.edu
