City of Gadsden Furniture Drive
for Katrina Evacuees Saturday

Most of the evacuees from hurricane Katrina who fled to the Gadsden area came with only the clothes on their backs. As the City of Gadsden Chamber of Commerce begins finding permanent homes for their newest residents, they find themselves in desperate need of furniture. To meet these needs, the city is hosting a furniture drive Saturday, September 17 from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Convention Hall. We are encouraging everyone to search their homes for gently used furniture.

The chamber also needs large trucks and drivers to help them move from Convention Hall to their storage facility during the drive. Please let the Gadsden chamber know if you can help. They do specify no used beds or clothing. Amanda B. Jackson, Katrina Control Officer/City of Gadsden says your support is greatly appreciated. You can reply be sending e-mail to gplps@library.gadsden.com.
